Galle Fort Heritage Walk
Wander the ramparts and lanes of a living Dutch colonial fort on the south coast.
What the Galle Fort Heritage Walk is really like.
Galle Fort is the best-preserved colonial sea fortress in South Asia, a UNESCO-listed warren of Dutch and British buildings still lived in today. A walking tour traces the ramparts, the lighthouse and the old churches, weaving through lanes of boutiques, cafes and merchant villas. Your guide unpacks the layered Portuguese, Dutch and British history and the Muslim and Burgher communities that still call it home. Late afternoon is best, ending with sunset on the walls.
