Castlereagh Reservoir
A serene tea-country lake ringed by estates and luxury bungalow hotels.

The gateway to high tea and the sacred peak.
Hatton is the railway and road junction at the centre of the high-grown tea district, surrounded by some of the most celebrated estates in the country and the country-house hotels that now occupy their old planters' bungalows. It is the closest town to the Adam's Peak trailhead at Nallathanniya, so pilgrims and luxury travellers pass through in equal measure. The drive in skirts the Castlereagh and Maskeliya reservoirs, mirror-still beneath the tea slopes, with the sacred peak itself often framed on the horizon. Hatton is as much a place to slow down on a working estate over a tea tasting as it is a junction to pass through.
