Do we ride the famous hill country train, and can you book it?

Yes. The Kandy to Ella line, past tea slopes and the Nine Arch Bridge, is one of the world's great rail journeys. Reserved first and second class seats sell out well ahead, so we book them early and have your vehicle meet you at the far station with your luggage.

How cold does the hill country get?

Cooler than you might expect. Nuwara Eliya sits above 1,800 metres and evenings can be genuinely cold, so a warm layer is worth packing even on a beach-and-hills trip.

How much walking is involved?

As much or as little as you like. Tea-estate strolls are gentle, while Highland Walking Week takes in Horton Plains and World's End and the Knuckles range at a moderate trekking pace. Tell us your level and we grade the days to match.

Question 4

Can we visit a working tea estate?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We arrange a walk through the plantations and a factory visit to see the leaf go from bush to cup, finishing with a proper tasting. On the longer trips you can stay in a restored planter's bungalow.
