Main Point
The long, mellow right-hander that made Arugam Bay a world surf destination.

One of Asia's great right-hand point breaks.
Arugam Bay is a laid-back surf town built around a long, peeling right-hand point break that ranks among the best waves in Asia. From May to September the swell lines up and the single sandy street fills with surfers, yoga studios and easy-going beach bars. Beyond the surf, the surrounding lagoons and the nearby Kumana and Lahugala parks put elephants, crocodiles and abundant birdlife within a short tuk-tuk ride. Quieter outlying breaks such as Whiskey Point, Peanut Farm and Pottuvil Point are scattered up and down the coast, and the ancient ruins at Muhudu Maha Viharaya sit right behind the beach.
